| Biography: |
Catriona trained as a nurse in 1974 and worked for her entire career in the profession.
For the last 14 years in she has worked in Education at Queen Margaret University College, Marie Curie Cancer Care Education Department and Napier University.
Prior to working in education most of Catriona's clinical experience was as a District nurse.
She is the leader for the Chronic illness, cancer and palliative care subject group in the School of Acute and Continuing Care Nursing. There is 14 academic staff in the group which is increasingly building a reputation for education and research in this area.
Some recent developments within the group include four research grants. The Centre for Integrated Health Care Research is funding three studies in breast cancer.
Macmillan cancer relief are funding the evaluation of a post providing support to families who are facing bereavement and the group has recently employed a Research fellow for three days a week to undertake this study. Also recently, a Lecturer/Practitioner post in cancer nursing was established within the school with the Edinburgh Cancer Centre and Macmillan cancer relief funding 50% salary costs for six years.
Additionally working with the Development Office has resulted in £240,000 from a private donor and the Royal Bank of Scotland to fund cancer nursing research fellowships.
Catriona has been developing her publication profile and has given a number of presentations at national and international conferences. She has 10 journal articles in publication and one in press. She has written a book chapter and a further two are in press.
